Glasbord® is an innovative, glass-fiber-reinforced plastic. It has a non-porous surface and can be used as customized hygiene solutions. The plastic offers premium quality based on excellent properties and can be used in numerous areas.
What are the advantages of glass fiber reinforced plastic?
Glass fiber reinforced plastic offers a variety of advantages, especially in hygienic environments such as the food industry. Glasbord® has a special Surfaseal film seal that guarantees easy cleaning. The non-porous surface prevents the growth of germs and microorganisms, and the plastic is resistant to yellowing and ammonia exposure. In addition, Glasbord® is food safe and offers excellent robustness and durability.
You can use Glasbord® in a variety of ways and purchase it both as sheet material for direct bonding and as a top layer for sandwich panels. The surface is available either flat or textured, while the thickness of the material also varies. Thanks to its versatile properties, you can always choose the version that suits your requirements and the desired application.
What can Glasbord® be used for?
Thanks to the high-quality, glass-fiber-reinforced plastic, Glasbord® has a non-porous and jointless surface. The material is available in different variants, thicknesses and surface structures. It is suitable for covering ceilings and walls, and its area of application extends to all hygienic rooms.
Glasbord® products meet all relevant EU standards that must be observed with regard to hygiene within the food industry. The nature of the special plastic ensures high sound and heat insulation, while the germ load is significantly lower.
With the special plastic products, optimum safety can be implemented in the food industry. The material is suitable for both renovations and new construction and, unlike conventional wall panels, has a long-term protective function.

Frequently asked questions
-
What are the differences between Glasbord® and standard GRP products?
The main difference is a polyester film that is incorporated into the Glasbord® surface using a special process technology. This guarantees a non-porous surface and prevents the penetration of germs, bacteria and chemicals. It also protects the material from discoloration.
-
What is the difference between a textured or flat surface with Glasbord®?
Advantages of a textured surface with Glasbord®:
- With the textured material surface, unevenness and scratches are not so obvious, repairs are barely visible.
- Slower draining of cleaning foam ≈ longer exposure time ≈ lower dosage.
- Creates pleasant working conditions and reduces eye fatigue due to diffuse light reflection.
Advantages of a flat surface with Glasbord®:
- Flat material is easier to print on, label and stick on.
-
What should be considered when selecting insulation thicknesses for Glasbord® GRP panels?
The choice of insulation thickness depends on various factors:
- Is it an interior wall or the interior insulation of an exterior wall?
- What is the temperature of the neighboring rooms or what room temperature is required?
- What is the temperature of the refrigerated goods during storage? What is the quantity of refrigerated goods to be stored?
- What is the vapor pressure or risk of condensation?
- A final efficient and economical assessment must be carried out by a specialist.
-
What spans are possible with Glasbord®?
The possible spans depend on numerous factors. Please contact us for possible spans.
-
What production lengths are possible with Glasbord®?
The maximum production length is 12m. A maximum of 8.5m is produced for coated steel panels.
-
What construction widths are available for Glasbord®?
The standard construction width is 1190 mm, 1206 mm for sheet metal backing and 1150 mm for coated steel panels.
-
Hard or soft joint with Glasbord®?
If hard joints are to be used for direct bonding, the climatic conditions must first be clarified. If there are large fluctuations in temperature or humidity, apply a soft joint (hps-1c).
We recommend a hard joint for sandwich panels.
This is determined individually depending on the requirements. You are welcome to contact us for this.
-
What is a maintenance joint with Glasbord®?
According to DIN 52460, a maintenance joint is a joint that is exposed to chemical and/or physical influences and whose sealant must be checked at regular intervals and replaced if necessary to prevent consequential damage.
In rooms with high humidity levels, regular cleaning or high hygiene requirements, this is essential to ensure safe operation. -
